We were excited to try out the T-Fal Ceramic Nonstick Cookware Set. The beautiful gold exterior has a very contemporary look, and the white, nonstick ceramic interior gives it a clean feel. The exterior is also nonstick, which should make it as easy to clean as the interior.

Does it live up to the hype?

Our testers struggled to keep the ceramic nonstick interior white. The nonstick part of the equation was excellent, but we found it was easy to stain and not so easy to get the stain out. Even though it is ceramic, care must be taken to use silicone, wooden, or nylon utensils to prevent scratching the interior.

First of all, we were unhappy that a set of measuring spoons would count as five of the 14 pieces in this T-Fal nonstick cookware set. Priced at the lower end of the range, it should have been labeled as a ten piece set, with one piece being a set of measuring spoons.

However, if this was our only complaint, and would still offer good value for your money, but…

It does have the Thermo-Spot Technology, which turns red to show when the pan is perfectly preheated and ready for cooking. It also has ergonomic and comfortable grip handles that are color-matched to the cookware.

The nonstick interior is supposedly scratch-resistant and durable. In addition, every piece of the cookware set is dishwasher safe.

So, why don’t we like it?

More than one of our testers had trouble with the nonstick coating bubbling and peeling with usage. Even those of us who were extra careful about not cooking with high temperatures, letting the pans cool before washing them, and not using anything at all abrasive on the cookware, had issues.

Instead, this stainless steel cookware set makes use of T-Fal’s Techno Release technology, which uses a raised pattern on the interior of the pan.

How does that work?

Whatever you’re cooking does not sit fully on the bottom of the pan. Instead, it sits on little grooves, which are supposed to make for easier release of the food from the pan while cooking. According to the manufacturer, it should also make cleanup a breeze.

What is the real story?
