Cheeseburger Biscuit Bake

This recipe makes me feel like I'm stepping back into my childhood. All my favorite flavors, like biscuits and gravy, cheeseburger-style.

This Cheeseburger Biscuit Bake is a 30 minute meal. Super easy to get on the table in a hurry, and yummy enough to be a hit. Basically all you have to do is brown the ground beef with the onions and drain. Mix in the the tomato sauce and ketchup, and add salt and pepper to taste. Dump the whole mixture in a 9"x9" baking dish. Sprinkle the cheese on top (for the CHEESEburger. Yum!). Then place the biscuits on top.

If you want it to look pretty, melt 2 tablespoons of butter to brush on top of the biscuits and sprinkle with garlic salt and dried parsley. It's all about the garnish for these simple, homey casseroles!

Bake for about 12 minutes, and serve with lettuce, tomatoes, and raw onions (and french fries too!) for a deconstructed cheeseburger look! Make sure everyone gets a biscuit-bun!

The casserole is very good. However, it will not serve 6-8 unless those people have very tiny appetites. I like it better with 1 1/2 - 2 pounds of extra lean beef, same amount of onion, tomato sauce, ketchup, and cheese. Add a tablespoon or so of yellow mustard ('cause I like mustard on my burgers). Use regular biscuits (as many as you can fit neatly around the pan) and a 9x9 pan to 1 1/2 pounds of beef or 6 jumbo biscuits and an 11x7 baking dish to 2 pounds of beef.

So i made this last night to try something different as i am so sick of always eating same things... pizza, spaghetti, brats, hamburgers, and meatloaf.
I have 6 kids, all who have their own personality and tastes... and all who are very picky with food! They hate onions (i use it in everything and they never realize it!)
I made a double batch of this recipe, and aadded some burger seasoning while browning the burger and onion and than added some chopped up baby dill pickles into the mix as well! I layered the beef, onion, pickle, sauce mixture ontop of some already baked biscuits.... and than overloaded with mozzarella cheese... than i dumped the rest of the beef mixture on top and topped that with cheddar cheese.. and bacon bits!!and than the biscuits on top as well!
The kids loved it, we went through 2 9×13 casserole dishes of it!! They told me i should make it every night!!! Thanks for the great recipe idea and again, pickles and bacon bits are a great add on... gives you the real bacon cheeseburger feel!! Loved it!!!

This is the 3rd biscuit on top recipe I have tried and it just doesn’t turn out. The biscuits are SO doughy on the bottom. We picked them off and it was still good, but why don’t the cook more than halfway?? I’m so baffled by this. And very sad that I can’t get it together lol

They do stay a little doughy on the bottom, kind of like dumplings rather than dry biscuits. That's because they're sitting in sauce. It's safe to eat, as they are still cooked, just in the sauce instead of dry.

Put them on top next time, and layer some shredded cheese on top as well. That's how I make it, it usually turns out less gooey. 🙂

I prebake my biscuits, halfway, then I place them on top and layer with some additional shredded cheese. Im not a huge fan of the gooey either, BUT most people enjoy it that way...as she said, it's more of a dumplin-type because it's sitting in the sauce. 🙂
